How Great Web Design Helps Boost Conversion Rates

Good web design is the foundation of every successful website. It’s more than just coming up with an attractive layout and beautiful graphic elements. It also has to have a well thought out user interface (UI) so it can deliver a great user experience (UX).

No matter how much value your content offers or how great your deals are, customers will simply click off your site if they can’t easily find what they’re looking for.

With this in mind, let’s check out how you can improve your website’s design to increase your conversion rates.

Make it Responsive and Mobile Friendly

About half of your website visitors will be checking out your site using a mobile device. If your website doesn’t properly scale when it’s viewed on a smaller screen, people won’t bother to try to make it work. This means you’re potentially losing half of your leads if your website isn’t very mobile-friendly. You’re also driving up your bounce rates whenever people click off your website, which results in lower search result rankings.

Another thing you need to pay attention to is page load times. Most users don’t have the patience to wait more than 5 seconds for your page to load. If it doesn’t show up instantly, they’ll just hit the back button and move on to the next search result. A good web designer should be able to minimize image sizes and ensure that their code is well optimized and error-free.

Make it Easy to Navigate

Before you fill up your website with all sorts of buttons and extra features, make sure all the basic features are easy to find. Your customers should be able to easily go to the most important pages of your website no matter what page they end up on.

Your main navigation menu should have links to the home page, about us, contact, products and services menu, and FAQ. Make sure all of these are easy to find before you add any more buttons and links that can confuse the user. Once you’ve added all of the other navigation buttons, check if your main pages are still clearly visible.

Use Design to Guide the User’s Eyes

Creating a beautiful design is important if you want to leave a good impression on your customers. But you have to be strategic when it comes to placing graphic elements like text, images, and call-to-action buttons. You also need to use empty spaces or white space whenever it’s necessary so that people don’t get overloaded with too much information.

Here are a couple of quick web design rules you can try out:

  • Only use bold typefaces for the most important information
  • Make your call-to-action buttons large and easily visible
  • Use white space to single out important bits of information
  • Try to break up large blocks of text
  • Use different colors to signify intent and mood
  • Keep sign up forms as short as possible

The human brain can only process so much information at any given time. But good web design can help customers process more information from a page and follow instructions better if it’s all laid out with ease of use in mind.

Effective web design isn’t about showcasing a graphic designer’s talents. Its primary purpose is to showcase your company and the value proposition that you’re able to offer. If the design isn’t helping to deliver the message you’re trying to convey, then it’s not doing its job properly.

Of course, this is all easier said than done. You also have to be prepared to go through several rounds of designs and testing to ensure you get the highest conversion rates possible.
